Author Interview

Hi, Welcome to Chicks, Rogues and Scandals! Thank you for taking the time to chat with me today.

Firstly, what five words would you use to describe yourself?

Pragmatic, caring, driven, chatty and geeky!

Can you tell us a little about your latest/up and coming release?

GLORIA is a contemporary domestic thriller about an unhappy housewife-come-artist who discovers her manipulative husband’s terrible secret, plunging her into a race against time to escape her home and save her daughter.

When not writing, what do you like to do to relax?

I’m a bit of a typical geek, and I enjoy playing Dungeons and Dragons, reading and playing vintage video games. I’m also a big yoga fan, and am just getting back into daily yoga practice after a few months of injury.

If you could have a holiday home anywhere in the world, where would it be?

It would have to be somewhere warm, as I can’t stand the cold! I would absolutely love a villa in Spain, Greece or Southern France, where I could bask in the sun by the pool and eat delicious food.

If you could have one of your books made into a film, which book would it be and who would play your lead character’s?

As GLORIA is my first published novel, it would have to be that, although I think it would be better suited to a TV series. In any case, I think Anne Hathaway would be a great match to play Gloria. She’s around the right age, and I know from watching her myself that she has great emotional range and would be able to capture Gloria’s transformation really well.

When writing, do you plot or do you go with the flow?

I am definitely a plotter! However, I can’t plan in too much detail or I start to limit my creativity, so I outline the key beats of the story and work within that framework. Whether it’s a novel or a short story, I always know how it will end!

What three tips would you pass on to an aspiring author?

  1. Ignore the self-doubt and write! Fear of failure held me back for way too long, as I agonised over whether my ideas were good enough.
  2. Get involved with the online writing community. There are so many amazing people and incredible resources there which will build you up as a writer.
  3. Don’t be afraid of getting feedback. I still struggle with this sometimes, but you’re often too close to your work to see where it can be improved, so seek out people who you trust and share your stories with them.

If you were hosting a dinner party what three people would you invite?

Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart and Bo Burnham. Imagine the conversations we would have!

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to chat with me today, I have just one more cheeky question, just for fun; What is your favourite snacking food?

Definitely chocolate! I have a sweet tooth so will always be tempted by a cheeky bar of chocolate (the darker the better).

Thank you, Frankie x
