For today’s A Chat With. . .I have the great pleasure to have an absolute brilliant author chatting with us, she is the USA Today Best Selling author and all round lovely lady; Jess Micheals, so sit back and let’s get to know a bit more about Jess.
Reading Chick : Hi Jess, Welcome to Chicks, Rogues and Scandals, Thank you for taking the time to chat with me today, Firstly what five words would you use to describe yourself?
Jess : Thanks so much for having me! I’d say: resilient, creative, happy, mindful and wife are the five best descriptors for me.
Reading Chick : Very nice, If you could live in any era and place, When and where would it be? And Why?
Jess : I write historical romance set in the Regency era in England, so you’d think I’d want to go back to that time. But to be honest I’m not sure I’d enjoy living in that era. I like clean water and regular bathing and diet coke and having rights as a woman. So maybe I’d want to visit that time, but I don’t think I’d want to stay in the end. I like the romantic version of that time more than I’d probably like the real version.
Reading Chick : I have to say that you do make some very good points there. Who was your childhood hero?
Jess : You know, I’m not sure I would have said it then, but now I think a hero from my childhood is Mister Rogers. Kind, giving, mindful, he truly cared for children and knew that he was often the only kind voice in some of their lives. He took that seriously and I don’t know if someone could have made a better steward for the lives of his viewers. The world lost a good man there when he passed away.
Reading Chick : Oh very nice, What is your favorite time of the year?
Jess : Right now I live in Tucson, so we don’t really have seasons. But we’re about to move to Northern Arizona and I’m looking forward to having fall again. There’s something so nice about crisp air and rainy days and the smell of smoke on the wind.
Reading Chick : Now that does sound good, I have to say that I have a certain love of fall/Autumn, OK, a bit of a tough one. Out of all your work, who is your favorite character and why?
Jess : Oh, that’s tough. Right now I’d say Gray from An Affair in Winter. He’s smart and driven, super sexy and protective of those he loves. He’s one of my favorite heroes I’ve ever written.
Reading Chick : I have to agree with you there Jess, I absolutely adore Grey, he really is incredible, Your books are incredible, where does your inspiration for them come from?
Jess : Oh thank you! I love writing them and it makes my day that so many readers buy them and keep buying them! Inspiration is really everywhere. There are four books in the Seasons series that starts on July 12 with AN AFFAIR IN WINTER. Then I have a very large series I plan to start in the beginning of next year. So I’m busy. Sometimes it’s a character who speaks to me, sometimes a scene, sometimes a plot or series idea. But there’s no shortage of ideas from me! It’s more about where do I find enough time to write them!
Reading Chick : Very interesting, thank you, What three tips would you pass on to an aspiring author?
Jess : Well, first off, write books. Don’t get distracted by all the other stuff. To be a writer, you must WRITE. That’s your first priority. Second, really research how you want to get those books into the world. Don’t blindly reach for any answer, really understand what you’re going to do and what the short and long-term consequences are. And finally, don’t expect it to be easy. Writing and publishing is a tough business. It will be for you too. That’s not a bad thing, it’s absolutely worth the pain, but there is pain.
Reading Chick : Oh wow, those are brilliant tip’s thank you Jess, If you were hosting a dinner party what three people would you invite? (They can be real/fictional, dead or alive)
Jess : I’d love to hang out with Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell. They seem to be a fun couple and I think my husband and I would like them. We’d play a mean game of Cards Against Humanity. And maybe David Tennant. I’m a big fan of Doctor Who and 10 is my Doctor.
Reading Chick : Very nice, I rather like David Tennant too, Thank you again for taking the time out of your busy schedule to chat with me today Jess, I have just one more cheeky question, just for fun. What is your all time favorite naughty but nice food?
Jess : I’m not sure what a naughty but nice food is. Like a sexy cake? I could eat a sexy cake for sure. LOL
Reading Chick : definitely! Thank you again Jess, it’s been an absolute pleasure.
Jess : Thank you so much for having me! And I hope you enjoy An Affair in Winter on July 12! It’s an all-new series so if you’ve never read me before it’s a GREAT place to start!
