Today at Chick’s Rogue’s and Scandals’ I am absolutely thrilled to have Bestselling, award-winning Historical Romance Author, Collette Cameron, stop by for a chat. So let’s get to know a little bit about the lovely Collette. . .
Collette pens Scottish and Regency Romances featuring rogues, rapscallions, rakes, and the intrepid damsels who reform them. Mother to three and self-proclaimed Cadbury chocoholic, she’s crazy about dachshunds, cobalt blue, and makes her home in Oregon with her husband and five mini-dachshunds. You’ll always find animals, quirky—sometimes naughty—humor, and a dash of inspiration in her novels.
Her motto for life? You can’t have too much chocolate, too many hugs, too many flowers, or too many books. She’s thinking about adding shoes to that list.
Reading Chick : Hi Collette, Welcome to Chicks, Rogues and Scandals, Thank you for taking the time to chat with me today, Firstly what five word’s would you use to describe yourself?
Collette : Thank you so much for having me as a guest today! Five words to describe myself? Hmm, well, organized, creative, witty, observant, and introverted.
Reading Chick : If you could live in any era and place, When and where would it be? And Why?
Collette : Only one? It would have to be Scotland in the early 1800s. I’m crazy about anything associated with Scotland, but during that era, Scotland mirrored much of what happened in England’s Regency Era. Plus, I might get to see an occasional Highlander in a kilt!
Reading Chick : Mmm!! Yeah! That doe’s seem pretty ideal to me, who doesn’t like a rugged Highlander in a kilt? 🙂 OK, on we go, Who was your childhood hero?
Collette : I didn’t have one. I suppose that makes me odd, but I truly didn’t have any idols or heroes.
Reading Chick : It’s not odd at all Collette, every one to their own I say, What is your favorite time of the year?
Collette : I adore Christmastime, but as for a season, my favorite is late spring/early summer. Everything is starting to bloom, and where I live things are very green too.
Reading Chick : Sound’s a lot like my own home, everything green and full of bloom. Out of all your work, who is your favorite character and why?
Collette : You do know I’ll have all of my other characters peeved at me if I name just one, don’t you? I rather adored Lucan, the Duke of Harcourt my hero in Heartbreak and Honor, though he’d appeared in several other books too. I think it’s because I knew him best, and his character growth impressed me.
Reading Chick : Very nice! Your book’s are incredible, where doe’s your inspiration for them come from?
Collette : Just about anything will inspire me in some way. My Conundrums of the Misses Culpepper series is about 5 sisters and cousins and I drew my on my experiences with my three sisters and a cousin I was very close to as an inspiration for that series. For my Highland Heather Romancing a Scot Series, I wanted to combine my love of Scotland and Regency England in a series that portrayed both. I include lots of dogs in my books (yes, I’m a dog-lover) and my humor creeps in often as well. A few readers don’t think I’m all that funny, though.
Reading Chick : That is very interesting. As a fellow dog-lover and owner I completely relate to you Collette, What three tip’s would you pass on to an aspiring author?
Collette : Never stop striving to improve your craft. Attend conference, participate in workshops, and read books on writing. Find your own unique voice. It’s fine to admire other authors, but you don’t want to mimic them. Develop a trusted circle of other authors you can trust, ask questions of, and who support you. Be prepared to do the same for them.
Reading Chick : Wow! Those are some brilliant tip’s and I am pretty certain that any up and coming author will be very grateful to you for sharing them, If you were hosting a dinner party what three people would you invite? (They can be real/fictional, dead or alive)
Collette : Oh, this is a hard one. Queen Victoria has always fascinated me, and so has Benjamin Franklin. For the third, I think I’d have to invite Jane Austen. I’m dying to ask her what she’d think of so many people being such fans of the era she wrote about.
Reading Chick : Thank you, I do try and get the little grey cell’s active, those are really great choices’, I think Jane Austen is definitely a must. Thank you again for taking the time out of your busy schedule to chat with me today, I have just one more cheeky question, just for fun. . .What is your all time favorite naughty but nice food?
Collette : Oh, now we’re telling secrets! I confess to a real love of crème brulee. We took a cruise a few years ago, and I had it for dessert every night.
Reading Chick : That sounded like a lot of fun, Thank you again Collette.
