Elizabeth Hoyt : Sweetest Scoundrel ( Maiden Lane #9)
Back Blurb :
She’s Taking Charge. . .
Prim, proper and thrifty Eve Dinwoody is all business when it come’s to protecting her brother’s investment’s. But when she agree’s to control the purse string’s of London’s premier pleasure garden; Harte’s Folly, she find’s herself butting head’s with an infuriating scoundrel who can’t be control.
He’s Running The Show. . .
Bawdy and bold. Asa Makepiece doesn’t have time for a penny-pinching prude like Eve. As the garden’s larger-than-life owner, he’s already dealing with self-centered soprano’s and temperamental tenor’s. He’s not about to let an aristocratic woman boss him around. . .no matter how enticing she is.
But Love Conquers All. . .
In spite of her lack of theatrical experience – and her fiery clashes with Asa – Eve is determined to run Harte’s Folly into a smashing success. But the harder she tries to manage the stubborn rake, the harder it is to ignore his seductive charm and raw magnetism. There’s no denying the smoldering fire between them – and trying to put it out would be the greatest folly of all. . .
My View :
I have to say that Elizabeth Hoyt has done it again with this stunner, she proves time and time again what a intelligent and talented Romance novelist she is, because this is a real jewel. We have it all; Brilliantly unique character’s whether they be hero’s that we all love or villain’s that we love to hate, fascinating story that has the signature Hoyt Love story mingled in with assassination attempt’s, conspiracies and blackmail.
I have said it before that my all time favorite Maiden lane character is ‘Charming’ Mickey O’Conner, but I have to say that Asa Makepiece is well up there with Charming Mickey, he is just an incredible character and one that before now has not had the page time he really deserved. He is intelligent, stubborn, big and brawny and never afraid of speaking his mind; whether that be proper or not, hugely protective and so hardworking that it’s not so much dedication but more obsession but that make’s him all the more lovable. Hoyt really struck gold when she created Asa and when she paired him with the courageous and vulnerable Eve it made excellent reading.
The relationship between Eve and Asa isn’t at first one that would usually work; him foul mouthed and equally foul tempered and her vulnerable, severely scarred from her traumatic past and so fragile that you’d be scared of braking her, but they are a match made in heaven. Her quiet intelligence reign’s in his sheer brute force and it is such a joy witnessing the transformation in both as each take’s on a little bit of the other’s characteristic’s. It is simply stunning.
For me one of best part’s is when the Whole Makepiece family and their spouse’s are all in attendance at Asa’s niece’s Baptism dinner and we get to actually meet the eldest Makepeice family member’s and see the relationship’s between the Asa and his sibling’s. Which like any family there is a fair amount of laughter and equal; if not more amount of arguing. That is a lovely scene and one that a lot of people can relate to I think.
It is just incredible and there is not enough word’s to describe just how good this book is, and one that really has to be read. The Maiden Lane Series is just breathtaking no matter which book or character is your favorite, no matter what a person usually read this series has something for all Historical Romance reader’s and by far the best thing that Elizabeth Hoyt has done, I can’t wait for the next one and if i’m right it’s going to bad boy Valantine Napier; Duke of Montgomery. So Good!!
