Eileen Dreyer ~ Always A Temptress ( #3 Drakes Rakes Series)

Back Blurb :

His Greatest Battle’s Just beginning. . .

Major Sir Harry Lidge has done his duty, After losing too many good men in battle she’s ready to live a life free of care. But first, he has one last mission; Kidnap the most outrageous woman in London – the same woman who betrayed him nearly a decade earlier – and find out what she’s concealing before her secrets take down the crown.

Her Heart Is the only Thing That She Won’t Risk. . .

Surrounded by ardent admirers and a few loyal friends, Lady Kate Seaton. glide’s through the ton armed with nothing but couture gowns and bon mots. No one suspect’s that beneath her lighthearted facade lie’s a sorrow so scandalous she’ll do anything to keep it hidden. But only when she trusts Harry with the truth can she begin to heal. And only when Harry trust’s her with his heart can he protect both his country and the woman he loves.

My View :

This is another hit for Eileen Dryer, I do like a Historical Romance that is more than just a lovey-dovey bit and this, as with all the Drake’s Rake’s Series is more than that. As with all of Dryer’s work it has a great plot, and fabulous characters (whether they are good are bad), and they’re always an energy that reverberates through the pages right to the last page and even then your always wondering if there is more to tell. With countless spies’, assassins and men in Military uniform at every turn you are gripped from beginning to end and really what more could a woman want than the hero wearing a full military dress while the raging war on your enemies?

The story follows on from the last one Never A Gentleman as Drake’s Rake is still trying to find and bring down the Notorious Lions, in the midst of all that we see the Lion’s trying to assassinate Kate and her brother trying to lock her away in an asylum and there is only one man who can save her and that is her childhood sweetheart, and the only man she has ever loved; Harry Lidge. I really like Kate she is a complex character nothing like she comes across to others, or how she has been presented in the previous one. She is fragile and vulnerable after years of abuse but she is so strong. I like that what we thought of Kate is completely different to how she really is, the relationship between her and Harry is at times steamy and complicated but it is gripping watching them skirt around each other while at the same time drawn to each other’s side’s, as they both battle their own demon’s.

Dreyer has always reminded me of Gaelen Foley with her writing as she has a great imagination and skill to bring such brilliant characters and plots to life, and I can’t wait to read more of her work.
