My View :
This is another hit for Eileen Dryer, I do like a Historical Romance that is more than the just lovey-dovey bit’s and this, as with all the Drake’s Rake’s Series is more than that. As with all of Dryer’s work it has great plot, fabulous character’s (whether they are good are bad), and there always energy that reverberate’s through the page’s right to the last page and even then your always wondering if there is more to tell. With countless spies’, assassin’s and men in Military uniform at every turn you are gripped from beginning to end and really what more could a woman want than the hero wearing full military dress while raging war on your enemies’?
The story follow’s on from the last one Never A Gentleman as Drake’s Rake’s are still trying to find and bring down the Notorious Lion’s, in the midst of all that we see thew Lion’s trying to assassinate Kate and her brother trying to lock her away in an asylum and there is only one man who can save her and that is her child hood sweetheart, and the only man she has ever loved; Harry Lidge. I really like Kate she is a complex character nothing like she come’s across to other’s, or how she has been presented in the previous one. She is fragile and vulnerable after year’s of abuse but she so strong. I like that what we though of Kate is completely different to how the she really is, the relationship between her and Harry is at time’s steamy and complicated but it is gripping watching them skirt around each other while at the same time drawn to each other’s side’s, as they both battle their own demon’s.
Dreyer has always reminded me of Gaelen Foley with her writing as she is has a great imagination and skill to bring such brilliant character’s and plot’s to life, and I can’t wait to read more of her work.
